When you're a child, you have to eat what adults give you since you don't have much of a choice in the matter. Hopefully, your parents gave you a balanced diet, and you were able to eat mostly foods that you liked. But as we all know, especially picky eaters such as myself, a lot of parents are in the "clean plate club." If you don't finish your meal, you don't get to leave the table. It doesn't seem conducive to creating kids who love to try new foods, but hey, that's been a popular parenting style for decades. On a related note, these commenters below answered the question, "What meal traumatized you as a kid?" and they had some super nasty answers. From cottage cheese to canned salmon to boiled eggs, it seems like every child has at least one major ick that carried over into adulthood. Either they were forced to eat a food they didn't like, or had to eat the same food every day for a while, or had other reasons for developing a strong distaste for certain textures and tastes.
