(August 14 00:00) I Can Has Cheezburger?
Anyone who has adopted before knows it's no walk in the park. With adoption come many responsibilities and commitments. Not only financial but moral and emotional as well. Before adopting a cat from the shelter, one must do as much research as possible about a. being a cat parent and b. getting your cat to trust you. If a cat is in an animal shelter it's most likely because it was abandoned by previous owners or given up for not being perfect. Any human would be traumatized from an experience like this, so imagine how these poor cats may feel. When taking in a rescue or a feral from the streets, it's important we respect their boundaries and give them as much time as they need to adapt and feel comfortable with us. Mind you, this can take weeks, months, and even years. So if that doesn't sound like something you are willing to deal with, you might want to think again about whether you're ready to be a cat parent. Nevertheless, if you do end up adopting and go through the process of earning your cats' trust, know it will all be worth it in the end. If you don't believe us then have a look at these real-life stories from fellow cat people.
