In many municipalities throughout the U.S., there are laws explaining that when stray cats are fed and cared for by humans, after a specific period of time, that human becomes the legal caregiver of the cat. This affords as much protection to humans as it does to their feline counterparts.A citizen from Ashland, Virginia, surrendered their ownership of an outdoor stray cat they had been feeding last month. After realizing they couldn't take care of her anymore, they brought her to the Hanover County Animal Control (HCAC), so others could have the opportunity to adopt her.
