Tax evasion fears as HMRC drastically scales back checks on eBay and Amazon sellers

British brick-and-mortar retailers fear they are being undercut by online sellers on platforms such as Amazon and eBay who operate outside of the UK and 'manipulate' the system to avoid VAT.
