Taika Waititi will write and direct a new Star Wars movie

Walt Disney Studios gave Star Wars fans a May the Fourth surprise by announcing that Thor: Ragnarok and The Mandalorian director Taika Waititi will co-write and direct a new, untitled Star Wars movie. Waititi will co-write the movie, which was announced as a standalone film that will likely have no connection to the Skywalker Saga, with Krysty Wilson-Cairns. Wilson-Cairns co-write 1917 with Sam Mendes and also wrote on Season 3 of supernatural series Penny Dreadful.  SEE ALSO: Disney+ will air eight-part 'Mandalorian' documentary in May. Thank you! Star Wars fans praised Waititi's contributions to season 1 of The Mandalorian, for which he voiced the killer-turned-nanny droid IG-11 and also directed the final episode, but he did not contribute any writing to the series in the first season.
