Why are things named what they are anyway? Some scientist or technician threw together a taxonomy a long time ago made up of some greek or latin roots that no one uses anymore? Just about everything can afford to have a nickname. Some of these make more sense than the originals. Saying "make sure the electric hose is plugged in" makes sense to us. Here are some alternate names for animals
